İÇDAŞ, founded by the ASLAN family in Haliç (the Golden Horn) to perform activities in ship repairing and servicing in 1880, took a step forward into the iron and steel
industry, after having entered into turning and rolling works in 1955. Grasping the contribution of steel production in the country’s economy and its strategic importance, İÇDAŞ has become a pioneer in its sector by constantly improving its technology and quality since 1962.
Producing steel bars and high alloy steel since 1970, İÇDAŞ is the biggest “private sector” steel producer in Turkey based on production capacity.
According to ISO (the Istanbul Chamber of Industry) assessment, we are ranked in the 13th place among Turkey’s top 500 enterprises in 2004, 15th in 2005 and 13th in 2006. Also we are ranked the 9th place in 2004, 13th in 2005 and 11th in 2006 among the “Leading Exporters of Turkey”. İÇDAŞ A.Ş. has nearly 10.000 employees when the Group’s affiliated companies are taken into consideration. Our company is currently pursuing its production activities in Istanbul and Çanakkale.
The aim of the company is to be within the top 10 of the general list and within the first 5 in exports in the coming years.
The position of İÇDAŞ in ISO ranking is determined by taking only the steel production into consideration. But, İÇDAŞ Group’s merchant marine fleet, land transportation fleet and the port activities are not taken into consideration as a criteria.
Besides the iron and steel production, İÇDAŞ also operates in the fields of ship building, port operations, piloting and towing, land and marine transportation, shipping, brokerage, insurance, international trade, tourism, construction and power generation.
İÇDAŞ has taken a decision in the direction of making a substantial investment for transforming its current production line into production of flat steel products used by shipyards and other industries, which are currently imported from abroad with great difficulties.
